Brodsko-Posavska County


The territory of the Republic of Croatia is organized into 20 counties called Zupanija. One of them is Brodsko - Posavska County (in Croatian: Brodsko - Posavska Zupanija) with administrative center in Slavonski Brod.

Brodsko-Posavska county is located in the eastern part of Croatia at the south of Panonian plain, in the region called Slavonia. The county's borders are the Psunj, Pozeska and Dilj mountains in the north and the Sava River in the south. The Sava is 165 km long border line beetween Republic of Croatia and Republic of Bosnia & Hercegovina. Inside B-P County are two cities: Slavonski Brod and Nova Gradiska.

From the west to the east of Caounty, parallel with the Sava River, are the main traffic lines from the Western Europe to the Middle East. The most important road, the highway Zagreb - Belgrade that connects the European countries with Near East and further, goes through Brodsko-Posavska County, while a construction of an international highway E-73 Budapest - Beli Manastir - Osijek - Slavonski Brod - neighbouring Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina ending in Ploce is just in construction. A railway line Zagreb - Belgrade that connects Western Europe with East significantly determines the county's development for many years, both from spatial and economic point of view.

The pipeline JANAF goes through the County and transfers raw oil from the Adriatic Sea to certain places in our and in the neighbouring countries. Pipeline Opatovac - Slavonski Brod, supply the oil refinery in neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina (Bosanski Brod).

Channel Vukovar - Samac and Harbour Brod on Sava River near Slavonski Brod will be important for the traffic connection of Europe and the Adriatic Sea.

Geographic position: from 45"02' to 45"23' norh latitude and from 17"04' to 18"55' east longitude.
The highest point (Psunj-Brezovo polje) 985 m over sea level, the lowest point (Gundinci) 83 m, average height over sea level is 90 m.

County Area: 2.034 sq. km (3.5 % of Croatia), towns and villages 52,4 sq. km, tilled soil and gardens 88.016 ha, orchards 2.766 ha, vineyards 1.195 ha, meadows 11.984 ha, pastures 13.128 ha, fish ponds 2.432 ha and forests 60.255 ha.

Population: county total 172.993 habitants, town Slavonski Brod 64.612, town Nova Gradiska 15.833. Population density: 84,68 habitants per sq. km.
